APPLICATION FIELDS

C.P.T. Studio offers a full range of services from the surveying and documentation of architectural, archaeological and historical – artistic heritage, land surveys, photographic and building site documentation, to planning on an urban and architectural scale. Furthermore, our firm offers all of the complementary services in order to guarantee excellent customer assistance during the working phases – planning, working direction, logistics in Italy and abroad, assistance during the project and topography.

SURVEYING AND DOCUMENTATION FOR THE CONSERVATION

The matured field experience and the use of the most up-to-date technologies, guarantee a highly advanced approach with regard to the analysis and the surveying of the heritage, an indispensable basis for thematic studies and for any further operation (analysis of the state of conservation, planning and quotation of the operations, structural investigations etc.).
Moreover, an accurate survey helps achieving a proper knowledge of the cultural place/monument, increasing the possibilities of conservation and presentation to the public.

Our activity since the early 2000s has been focused on research for solutions for surveying and documentation, contributing to the development of a number of highly innovative technical systems, currently utilized in the cultural heritage sector. Particularly we were among the first to use integrated systems of survey that combine 3D photogrammetric technologies, laser scans and topographic systems. It is possible to cite two surveying systems finely tuned on both an urban scale (survey of the historical city center of Erbil, Iraq, 2011, financed by UNESCO) and on a detailed scale (survey of the painted surfaces of the Monastery of Gracanica, Kosovo, 2012, financed by the US Embassy).
In the first case (historical center of Erbil, Iraq) an integrated methodology for field-work (dual-frequency GPS, laser scanner, Total Station and photogrammetric captures) and for the management of the post-processing has been developed in order to allow for the execution of a three-dimensional survey and the successive two-dimensional representation of around 45,000 m² of elevations in an extremely reduced period of time. The field survey was carried out in less than ten days and the reproduction in an orthophotographic and vectorial form of elevations, sections and plans required two months.
In the second case (Monastery of Gracanica, Kosovo) a wall paintings documentation system has been elaborated, based on the integrated management of point clouds and orthophotographs produced by laser scanner and three-dimensional photogrammetry. For the same project, all of the church’s internal painted surfaces, including those with a double curvature (cupolas and apsidal basins), have been represented on a planar surface, in an orthophotographic and vectorial form. An appropriate mathematic-computing system has been implemented in order to obtain the development on a plane of these curved structures.

TRAINING AND RESEARCH

On top of the constant commitment in the field of applied research, our technicians carry out training activities in a national and international sphere. The object of the courses and lessons has been principally that of documentation and advanced technologies for surveying and restoration purposes. In particular it is possible to briefly cite the courses held in recent years by the society’s Administrator:
- Course held at the Belgrade Central Institute for Conservation (CIK) – client: ISCR, Financer: Italian Development Cooperation (DGCS);
- Course held at the Tirana Centre of Conservation and Restoration – client UNESCO;
- Lessons held at the ISCR- Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities – Rome.
